At Genesee Habitat, we know the complexities that surround the cost of home. We know that one in eight Michiganders are paying more than 30% of their income on housing.¹ We also know that people take care of what they can, but with 78% of homes built well before 1990, the homes in Genesee County require constant maintenance and repair. The County has housing options for a wide range of living styles; yet 46 percent of all households struggle to afford basic needs and there are still families that find themselves unable to afford the cost of home.²
At Genesee Habitat, in addition to lifting our hammers, we also lift our voices to advocate for adequate shelter. We use our background of years of on-the-ground experience and policy expertise to advocate at the local, state and national level for reform in a non-confrontational and non-partisan way. Because, if there’s one thing we all can agree on, it’s that everyone deserves a decent place to live!
